### 調象菴越山兄塔銘

向上一路，千聖不傳，卻之不後，引之不前。所好者道，進乎學也。才既吾竭，恩愛自捨，越山崢嶸，實稱其名。朋來以樂，未免於情，縫掖思裂，髭髮思截。會稽雲門，中有古佛，挈侶辭家，嶺出仙霞，不惜腳指，卻笑玄沙。登雲門堂，遐契於夙，擺壞金鎖，香象躑躅，葉落思根，酬及至恩，還鄉一曲，友誼復敦。鼓山靈骨，蔓不可覓，禱於北林，舍利湧出，建宰堵波，結茅於窩。通霄古路，剪藤伐蘿，虎窟狼窟，百廢始葺。遙迎博山，躬為輔弼，溯流建川，盟結死關。老矣瓶窯，指畫其間，復歸屴崱，調象為適，象王回旋。度生事畢，有塞優婆、仙陀、純陀，永佩遺則。塔樣峨峨，我銘其上，不幾點污。

> The highest path is beyond words— no sage can transmit it. Push it away and it does not leave; pull it close and it does not come. What one truly loves is the Way, which deepens through study. When my abilities are exhausted, attachments to love naturally fall away. The towering mountains reflect the name— truly worthy of its reputation. Friends arrive with joy, yet emotions still linger. Robes long to be torn, hair and beard long to be cut. At Cloud Gate in Kuaiji, an ancient Buddha dwells. Leaving home with companions, crossing the peaks through immortal mists, not sparing even the toes— laughing at Xuan Sha's ways. Entering the hall of Cloud Gate, fulfilling vows from past lives. Breaking through gilded chains, the fragrant elephant hesitates. Leaves fall, longing for their roots; repaying kindness to the utmost. A song of homecoming, and friendship grows strong again. The holy bones of Gu Mountain are scattered, hard to find. Praying at North Grove, relics emerge. Building a stupa, settling in a grass hut. On the ancient path through the sky, cutting vines and clearing vines. In tiger dens and wolf dens, a hundred ruins begin to mend. From afar, welcoming Boshan, personally serving as guide. Sailing upstream through Jian River, forming a pact even unto death. Old and frail by the kiln, still guiding the work. Returning to Lizi Mountain, training the elephant to find ease. The elephant king turns around— the work of liberating beings is complete. There are lay followers— Xiantuo, Chunduo— who forever uphold these teachings. The pagoda rises high; I inscribe this upon it, without a trace of taint.
