### 別夏緩公居士

> Farewell to Layman Huan Gong in Summer Retreat

貧和尚，清宰官，正爾相當，唯損清惠，為受不安耳。貴境多善信，款話甚殷，此皆賴呵護使然。所喜郡伯政亦甚善，似不復用頭陀法、行常不輕行也。至廿五日始解纜，滿擬一造高齋，作數刻別語，聞交游接踵，唯望風依依，覺新我瓢笠，晤謝有期，為道自愛。華藏菴樸僧數輩人頗憐之，第憐之以道者，又不得不仰仗鼎言於郡伯處矣。

> This poor monk and this clear-minded official—we truly match each other. Yet I only bring loss to your pure kindness, and I feel uneasy receiving it. Your region is filled with many virtuous believers, and their warm conversations are abundant—this all comes from your protection and care. I am glad that the prefect's governance is also very good, and it seems there is no need to employ the ascetic's methods or practice the way of never disparaging others. Only on the twenty-fifth day do I set sail. I had fully planned to visit your noble residence and share a few moments of parting words, but I hear that visitors follow one after another, so I can only gaze from afar with longing. I will renew my staff and alms bowl, and there will surely be a time to meet and thank you. Take care of yourself for the sake of the Way. As for the plain monks of Huazang Nunnery, several people quite pity them—yet if they are to be pitied for the sake of the Way, I must rely on your powerful words on their behalf before the prefect.
