> Self-Confession Day Lots Drawing Text

> I bow to the pure and perfect enlightened ones of the Dharma Realm, And to the ocean-like nature of the pure Vinaya and True Dharma. To all noble beings, conventional and ultimate, who abide in repentance— May you, as One Body, witness and compassionately receive us.

> From beginningless time until now, I, Zhi Xu, have been deluded about the intrinsic nature of the Three Jewels, sinking and swirling through the six realms of rebirth. Stubbornly attached to false teachings, I constantly strayed from the path of liberation, foolishly hoping for shortcuts without understanding the true vehicle. Fortunately, due to the subtle good karma from past lives, I encountered the authentic Vinaya teachings. On the day of the summer retreat's commencement, I offered divination slips and made my intentions known. Now, as the three-month retreat concludes and the monks prepare for the Pavāraṇā ceremony, I once again offer six incense sticks—three to seek clarity on my roots and capabilities, asking for clear guidance from the sacred, setting aside personal preference; three to accompany the divination slips and declare three vows. If I draw the "Taking Refuge" slip: For all future time, I vow never to abandon the Buddha, never to abandon the Dharma, and never to abandon the Sangha. If I draw the "Upāsaka/Śrāmaṇera" slip: I vow never to forget the Bodhi mind, to act as an external supporter helping to revive true Dharma, and to support monastics who practice according to the Dharma. If I draw the "Second Ordination" slip: I vow never to violate the rules of respectful conduct toward my teacher, to remain under guidance for five summer retreats, and to refrain from becoming a teacher myself before completing ten retreats. If I draw the "Auspicious Marks" slip: I vow to forget my body and engage in repentance practice, to fulfill my previous vow of first training disciples, and not to teach publicly until I see auspicious signs—except when practicing pure Dharma with companions. If I draw either of the remaining two slips: I vow never to ordain people indiscriminately, bringing shame to the Dharma; never to change anyone's name or ordination status; and to practice together with like-minded beings as taught, not chasing fame, profit, or worldly affairs. I will simply uphold the true Dharma and await future worthy practitioners. May the Three Jewels, devas, and dragon kings always look upon me with compassion and guide me.
