> Pure Land Repentance Liturgy

> Homage to the Infinite Life of the Able One, And to the Two Lands' Dharma Treasures: teachings, practice, and truth. To Guanyin, Mahasthama, and the oceanic assembly of monastics, May the boundless Three Jewels grant their protection.

> The Bodhisattva-monk Zhi Xu, together with all sentient beings throughout the Dharma Realm, has strayed from true reality, given rise to delusion, turned away from awakening, and clung to defilement. Our deluded actions and afflictions are endless, and the bitter fruits we reap never cease. From beginningless time until now, we have never awakened. Though we have encountered the path of liberation, we fail to recognize it or pursue it. Thus, we revolve endlessly through the six realms, drowning in the three unfortunate states, creating vast causes of suffering, and experiencing intense pain. Now, due to a trace of goodness from past lives, I have encountered the true vehicle. Yet my habits of defilement remain strong, and pure practice has not been achieved. I have betrayed my initial aspiration to leave home and failed the profound kindness of the Buddhas and patriarchs. With a remorseful heart and a sense of deep shame toward heaven and earth, I make a determined resolve: for seven days, I will practice the pure land repentance ritual, aspiring to realize the Samadhi of mindfulness of the Buddha. Throughout the six periods of the day in practice, I will single-mindedly recite the Buddha's name, calling upon the perfect compassion of the Buddha, and must surely receive a wondrous response. I light three incense sticks as an offering to the Three Jewels of both worlds, praying that the three minds may be fully awakened and the three obstacles suddenly removed. I light fourteen more sticks for fourteen lots to be drawn: the first to determine four matters of conduct; the second to set three timings for practicing the \*Divination Sutra of Samantabhadra's Practice Method\*; the third through tenth to determine eight matters regarding the practice rituals of that sutra; the eleventh to decide on three practices for the \*Golden Light Repentance\*; the twelfth to set seven timings for reciting the \*Sutra of Eradicating Fixed Karma\*; the thirteenth to determine five aspects of the \*Pratyutpanna Samadhi\*; and the fourteenth to decide eighteen matters concerning the priorities and scheduling of scriptural commentaries. The Buddha, in his perfect knowledge, will see all details, and I pray that his vast compassion dispels my doubts and confusion. I humbly dedicate the smallest trace of goodness to all sentient beings equally. May it be inexhaustible in accordance with the Nature of Reality, and may the power of my vows move freely. May those who see, hear, or rejoice in this turn evil into goodness and increase virtue. May we all unite with the eternal light and joy, returning together to the realm of Stillness and Radiance. May all beings in the Dharma Realm, without exception, be reborn in the Pure Land—yet the Pure Land does not increase. May all atoms in the Dharma Realm manifest the Pure Land without exception—yet the Pure Land does not diminish. Thoroughly awakening to non-arising, we may still fervently seek rebirth; clearly understanding that there is no departing, we may still resolutely go forth. May the Dharma teaching of Amitabha spread widely, forcefully demolishing the shallow and confused heresies. May this deeply accord with the compassionate vow of Shakyamuni Buddha, rescuing the fragmented and superficial scholars. May we liberate beings of the five turbidities to the nine grades of rebirth, purifying the four lands through a single mind. Even if space itself could fall, my vow will never crumble. I pray the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha may witness and embrace me.
