### 雲麓居士持金剛經序

> Preface by Layman Yunlu on the Diamond Sutra

五度如盲，般若如導，行如足，慧如目，目足並運，入清涼池。此《金剛般若經》，所以為萬行司南，大乘正戶也。世不達實相印，妄談無相宗，謬執即非一語，罔識是名指歸。萬行既無，正解亦喪，讀誦講說，皆為誹謗。可歎矣。譬自刖其足，致遠何由？遺棄眾盲，導師何用？於法不說斷滅相，佛語昭然，胡弗思也。夫色即是空，非撥色覓空，無有法得菩提。而授記作佛，四句百非，直下頓絕，奚勞用龜毛帚，埽虛空花影邪？持戒修福，於此章句，方能生信心。後五百歲，如是受持讀誦始得。

> The Five Faculties are like blind men; \*Prajna\* is the guide. Practice is like the feet; Wisdom is like the eyes. When both eyes and feet work together, one enters the cool, refreshing pond. This is why the \*Diamond Prajna Sutra\* serves as the compass for all practices and the true gateway to the Great Vehicle. Those who fail to realize the seal of ultimate reality vainly discuss the doctrine of non-form, mistakenly cling to the phrase “is not,” and have no understanding of the meaning of “therefore it is called.” Without any practices, correct understanding is also lost. Reading, reciting, and explaining all become slander. How lamentable! It is like cutting off one’s own feet—how can one travel far? If the blind are abandoned, what use is the guide? The Buddha clearly states, “Do not say that the Dharma has a mark of cessation.” Why do you not think about this? Form is emptiness—this does not mean discarding form to seek emptiness. There is no dharma that attains supreme enlightenment, yet one receives the prophecy of Buddhahood. The four propositions and hundred negations are instantly cut off. Why bother using a brush made of rabbit’s hair to sweep away the illusory flowers in the sky? Only by upholding precepts and cultivating merit can one give rise to faith in these passages. In the last five hundred years, only then can one receive, uphold, read, and recite them as instructed.
