> Preface to Collected Wandering Illusions

癸巳之春，單丁行腳，戒子堅蜜，邀入新安，結夏冬於歙浦，覽湯泉、白嶽之勝於深秋。甲午春，從武林菰城而入靈峰，屈指匝一歲中，大半禁絕應酬，唯今春筆墨汗漫，而存稿十不及三。既臥藏堂，偶一簡視，不滿四十紙，故不復分門別類，唯依時之先後以為次第，名《幻遊雜集》云。

> In the spring of the year Guisi (1593), I traveled alone on foot. The precept-holder Jian Mi invited me to enter Xin'an, where I spent the summer and winter retreats at Shepu. In late autumn, I enjoyed the scenic hot springs and the beauty of Baiyue Mountain. In the spring of the following year, Jiawu (1594), I journeyed from Wulin (Hangzhou) and Gucheng to Lingfeng. Calculating the year, I had mostly refrained from social engagements. Only in the current spring was I busy with writing, yet even so, fewer than three out of ten drafts were preserved. Now lying in the Depository Hall, I happened to glance through them, finding no more than forty pages. Thus, I did not arrange them by category, but simply in chronological order, and named this collection \*Miscellaneous Collection of Illusory Wanderings\*.
