### 刻十二頭陀經跋

> Colophon to the Scripture on the Twelve Austerities

頭陀以抖擻塵勞為義，具十二法，迦葉尊者終身奉行。世尊謂正法住世，全賴此人。迨茲末運，妄以鬚髮當之，尚不知比丘戒為何事，矧頭陀法邪？予雖根劣，僅持一二，然一番展讀，輒一番愧感，例諸賢達，想亦當爾。重錄梓行，伏願見聞隨喜者，發增上心，少多奉持，庶重興正法，不日可望耳。

> The term "Tou-Tuo" (Dhuta) means to shake off all worldly attachments and defilements. It contains twelve specific practices, which the Venerable Mahakashyapa upheld throughout his entire life. The World-Honored One said that the continuation of the True Dharma depends entirely on such a person. Now, in this final declining age, people mistakenly think that simply growing a beard and shaving their head qualifies them. They don’t even understand what a monk’s precepts mean, let alone the practices of a Dhuta ascetic! Although I am of dull roots and can only observe a few of these practices, every time I read this text, I feel both shame and gratitude. I imagine that all virtuous readers must feel the same. Therefore, I am reprinting this text for circulation, and sincerely hope that all who see or hear it will rejoice and develop a lofty and determined aspiration. May each person observe these practices, whether a few or many, so that we may hope to revive the True Dharma before long.
