### 化持滅定業真言一世界數莊嚴地藏聖像疏

> Ritual for Entrusting the Mantra That Erases Fixed Karma to Adorn Earth Treasury's Sacred Image in a World of Numberless Majesties

釋迦佛謂定業不可救，所以寒造罪之心。地藏菩薩說滅定業真言，所以慰窮途之客。旭少習東魯，每謗西乾。承觀音大士感觸攝受，後聞地藏本願尊經，始發大心，誓空九界。今得與僧倫染神乘戒，皆慈願冥加，不可誣也。爰念娑婆獘惡，惑業苦三，如惡叉聚，無上醍醐，悉成毒藥。持律者唯事衣缽，作犯止持，茫無所曉；習教者唯事口耳，禪那理觀，瞀無所得；參宗者流入機境，播弄精魂，心佛真源，毫無親證；淨土一門，稍切時機，亦苦多成退托，未合不思議大乘。良由業重障深，濁智流轉，雖有聖者，末如何也。唯地藏慈尊，悲深願重，專愍剛強，尚能轉我當年殷厚邪心，使得正信出家，豈難轉大地眾生無知過犯，使歸真際乎？故於三寶前發心，欲造萬佛銅殿，中供大士，永鎮九華。爰受一食法，結百日壇，持滅定業真言五百萬。又化大心緇素，或持十萬，或百千萬，共成十萬萬，表三千大千世界數，以其總數，供大士像中，作盡未來廣化十方左券云。

> The Buddha Shakyamuni declared that fixed karma cannot be saved, thus discouraging the creation of new offenses. Earth Store Bodhisattva proclaimed the true mantra for eliminating fixed karma, thereby comforting those at the end of their road. I, Ou Yi, studied Confucianism in my youth and often slandered Buddhism. Moved and received by the compassionate guidance of Guanyin Bodhisattva, I later heard the Earth Store Sutra on the Fundamental Vows and began to develop the great resolve, vowing to empty the nine realms of existence. Now, having become a monastic and taken the precepts, this is all due to the invisible support of the Bodhisattva’s compassionate vow—I cannot deny it. Considering this Sahā world is base and evil, the three poisons of delusion, karma, and suffering entangle like thorn-apple clusters, turning even the finest nectar into poison. Those who uphold the precepts only focus on robes and bowls, ignorant of how to stop or perform certain actions. Those who study the teachings merely engage in talk, having no real understanding of meditative principles or discernment. Those who practice Chan meditation drift into intellectual states, playing with superficial experiences, but have not truly realized the original nature of mind and Buddha. The Pure Land path is somewhat suited to our times, yet practitioners often retreat, unable to embody the inconceivable Mahayana. This is entirely due to heavy karma, deep obstacles, and the swirling currents of defiled cognition. Even sages find it difficult to help. Only Earth Store, the Compassionate One, with deep kindness and immense vows, specifically takes pity on stubborn beings. If he could turn my deep-seated heretical mind and lead me to take refuge in the Right Dharma, how could he not transform the ignorant misdeeds of countless beings in the great earth, guiding them back to ultimate reality? For this reason, I made a vow before the Three Jewels: to build a copper hall housing ten thousand Buddhas, enshrining Earth Store Bodhisattva in the center, to forever stabilize Jiuhua Mountain. I thus accepted the rule of one meal a day, performed a ritual platform for one hundred days, and recited the mantra for eliminating fixed karma five million times. I also led sincere monastics and laypeople—some reciting ten thousand, some a hundred thousand or a million—completing a total of one hundred trillion recitations, symbolizing the number of worlds in the great trichiliocosm. With this combined number, I offer it to the Bodhisattva’s image, to serve as a testament for the vast and endless transformation of beings in the ten directions in all future ages.
