### 造毘盧佛像疏

> Building a Vairocana Buddha Statue

世人侈談無相理，不達實相印，謬以豁達空，為清淨法身。誰知微妙淨法身，具相三十二，托事表法，華藏玄門。此所以末法時，以造佛形像，為第一功德也。莊嚴土木，即莊嚴法身。十身相海，全在一微塵裏。是故一塵之施，可以入如來無盡相好光明。而一瞻一禮，可以證如來無邊功德海藏。某開士，既欲塑毘盧像，但作如是觀，不患助緣無人。諸上善，設欲悟如是理，但種此緣因，不患正因不顯。此緣若就，此觀若成，方信毘盧遮那佛，願力周沙界，熾然說法，無有閒歇也。

> Most people nowadays casually talk about the idea of "formlessness" without truly understanding the seal of ultimate reality. Mistakenly, they take a hollow, detached emptiness to be the pure Dharmakaya. Little do they realize that the subtle and wondrous pure Dharmakaya possesses the thirty-two marks of a great being. These marks are embodied in forms and events, revealing the profound and vast realm of the Avatamsaka. This is precisely why, in the degenerate age of the Dharma, creating Buddha images is considered the foremost meritorious act. Adorning clay and wood is itself adorning the Dharmakaya. The entire ocean of marks adorning the ten bodies is contained within a single mote of dust. Thus, the gift of even one speck of dust can enter into the Tathagata's boundless marks and light. A single glance or a single bow can realize the Tathagata's infinite ocean of merit and virtue. A certain Bodhisattva now wishes to sculpt an image of Vairocana Buddha. If he simply cultivates this understanding, he need not worry about lacking supporters. Likewise, all good people who wish to awaken to this truth need only plant the causes and conditions for this vision. If they do so, they need not worry that the primary cause will remain unrealized. When these conditions are fulfilled and this contemplation is perfected, then you will truly believe that Vairocana Buddha's vows and power pervade the entire universe, that he preaches the Dharma with brilliant intensity, never ceasing for a moment.
