> Pledge for Vegetarian Offerings to Prolong Life

> Misguided by the truth, we give rise to delusion—who among us does not create karma? Karma has its轻重, light and heavy, and the consequences follow accordingly. To transform the heavy into light, and the light into complete dissipation, relies solely on the practice of repentance. If one can deeply repent for heavy karmic deeds, they will melt away like ice; but if one commits a minor transgression without reforming the mind, it will ultimately become a fixed karma. Thus the scriptures praise two kinds of courageous individuals: one who never commits wrongs, and one who repents after having done so. Surely it is safe to never commit wrongs, but to commit and then repent—if the strength of that repentance is profound—is even more worthy of being called brave and resolute. From the beginning of a beginner’s vow up to the highest stage of enlightenment, all Buddhas of the past, present, and future have used the five types of repentance as expedient means for progress. Understand that repentance through ritual action can eradicate the hindrance of karma; repentance through visual signs can eliminate the hindrance of retribution; and repentance through realizing non-arising can remove the hindrance of afflictions. When these three hindrances are completely eradicated, the three virtues are fully realized, and the three bodies are perfectly manifested. This is direct and swift—what is known as "when the butcher’s knife is put down, one immediately becomes a Buddha." Master Han Bai, deeply lamenting past mistakes and wisely considering how to make amends, intends to enter a retreat for the sake of all beings throughout the Dharma realm, to put aside the past and cultivate the future. Know that as soon as you give rise to this intention, your fixed karma has already been transformed. I will teach you the method of the Great Compassion Heart Mantra Practice, as well as the Dharani of Earth Store Bodhisattva that eradicates fixed karma. Both are excellent medicines to thoroughly purify the root hindrances, sense organs, habits, and seed tendencies. Practice them diligently, never missing the six periods of the day, with one-pointed mind unconfused. Then, whether saving yourself or others, all methods will be complete. Do not worry about lacking the conditions to aid your practice. For who among us has no boundless karma? Who does not wish to enter together with genuine practitioners into the pure ocean of repentance? The practice of rejoicing, in itself, does not await encouragement from others.
