> Ren Cao Shami's Transformation Recitation of Buddha Vow

> The Tathagata Amitabha, with his forty-eight vows, gathers and transforms beings throughout the ten directions. The great being Mahasthamaprapta, through the mindfulness-of-the-Buddha samadhi, travels through this world. You should know that in the Dharma-ending age, sentient beings cannot escape birth and death unless they take the Pure Land path. The Buddhadharma is not elaborate; what is difficult is finding someone who can practice consistently over time. A sudden burst of zeal is no match for a lifetime of steady effort. This is why the Great Master Ciyun taught the method of ten recitations at dawn, and why the Venerable Feixi explained the profound principle that a single thought can lead to rebirth. Now, the novice Ren Cao, with sincere resolve, encourages both monastics and laypeople to cultivate this mindfulness-of-the-Buddha samadhi. Start from one hundred thousand recitations daily, down to one hundred, or just ten, or even a single recitation per day. The number does not matter—what matters is maintaining the practice without interruption for your entire life. Treat this practice like eating when hungry and drinking when thirsty; make it your guarantee for the jeweled pond and jeweled ground of the Pure Land. If, in a single mindful recitation, you can suddenly shatter ignorance, you will transcend into the Pure Land of Eternal Light. If you completely sever the dust-and-sand delusions, you will enter the Pure Land of True Reward. If you cut off all views and attachments, you will reach the Pure Land of Expedient Means. And even if you have not yet eliminated any delusions, as the five turbidities gradually clear and the Buddha's light begins to shine, you will definitely attain rebirth in the Pure Land of Coexistence, forever freed from the cycle of rebirth—rest assured of this. I pray that all who see or hear these words will regard this as the grand gathering at Donglin, and consider everyone who has their name entered in the Lotus Register as one of the eighteen worthy sages. Then, with a single mind, you will be mindful of all Buddhas across the three times, and the mindfulness-of-the-Buddha samadhi will be clearly manifest before you.
