### 善生開士飯僧功德疏

> Offering Merits to Monastics by the Layman Shansheng

買死馬頭，則千里之馬至。飯尋常僧，則三乘聖僧格。此必然之理，無足怪者。世人妄生分別，競欲捨凡取聖。而郭永定居士，知凡聖一體，自發心飯萬僧，復化人飯萬僧。非自行檀施，不足轉化他人。非廣化結緣，不足滿自願力，可以勸矣。

> If you buy the head of a dead horse, then a horse that runs a thousand miles will come. If you feed an ordinary monk, then the noble ones of the Three Vehicles will arrive. This is a natural principle, nothing strange about it. Ordinary people falsely create distinctions, eagerly trying to abandon the ordinary in pursuit of the holy. But the lay practitioner Guo Yongding realized that the ordinary and the holy are one. He took the initiative to feed ten thousand monks himself, and then inspired others to do the same. Without practicing giving himself, he would have been unable to transform others. Without extensively forging connections, his own vow would have been incomplete. This is truly worthy of encouragement.
