> Eighth Decade of Shouju Muniu Shuoren and Cigong Jushi

> The mind in this very moment has existed from the beginningless past to the endless future— thus it is called "boundless life" (Amitāyus). It is luminous, radiant, and thoroughly clear— thus it is called "boundless light" (Amitābha). Amitabha Buddha simply realized what is already inherently present and shared by all minds. Therefore, if we can truly uphold the name of Amitabha in thought after thought, we are each moment realizing boundless life and radiating boundless light. The ancient sages did this, and so can people today; when the mind is utterly sincere, it can do this, and even when it is distracted, it still can. The Lotus Sutra says, "Whoever once utters the name 'Namo Buddha' has already entered the Buddha's path." Do these great, sacred words from the Buddha's golden mouth deceive us? In this degenerate age, our obstacles are heavy. If we seek something esoteric and profound elsewhere, hoping for speed, we actually become slower. Only Mr. Miyu Che, by earnestly cultivating the Pure Land practice, without any deviation in mind, recites Amitabha's name fifty thousand times day and night. With this merit, he reverently dedicates it to his mother, vowing to realize together the ultimate fruition of Amitabha's enlightenment. Lady Niu also has kept a long-term vegetarian practice for thirty-five years as if they were one day. The layman has three sons and three daughters, and his three sons have nine grandsons. Now, to celebrate a birthday, he does not use worldly song and dance, but only the sound of the Buddha's name and scriptures. If all people in the world could be like Layman Che’s family, wouldn't this Saha world immediately become the Pure Land? Wouldn't these worldly family bonds become companions in the path of enlightenment? The layman says that although his present children and grandchildren have already heard the name of the Triple Gem, he wishes to pass down this Dharma-door of celebrating longevity by reciting the Buddha’s name, so it may be transmitted through generations, transforming countless beings, and beseeches me to offer a few words. But this very moment's mind, which is boundless light and boundless life— all people share it innately, yet all people also sigh over it, obscured. Since it is shared, it is not separate; since all sigh, it is not something to be stopped. With this shared mind, to feel that which cannot be stopped— is that not what it means to truly be a child of the Buddha?
