### 三觀蓮華頌有引

> Three Contemplations of the Lotus (with Preface)

一心三觀，即妙法蓮華也。本非定三，豈應分頌？然亦非定一，姑妄分之。讀者幸勿以辭害意。

> Contemplating the One Mind through Three Insights is itself the Wondrous Dharma Flower Sutra. These three are not fixed in nature, so why divide them into verses? Yet they are not fixed as one either, so I provisionally separate them. Readers, please do not let the words hinder your understanding of the meaning.

空觀蓮花。頌曰覓心覓佛了無蹤，一葉荷香裹太空。消盡涅槃生死夢，相看仍在寶池中。

> <note place="inline">Contemplating the emptiness of the lotus: a verse</note> Searching for mind and Buddha leaves no trace within — A single lotus petal holds the fragrance of infinite space. The dreams of nirvāṇa and birth-and-death are wholly dissolved: Yet you and I are still reflected in the jewel pond.

假觀蓮花。頌曰蕊幢葉葉含塵界，光影相吞孰可窮。歷盡普賢毛孔後，始知生長福城東。

> A vision of a lotus flower, offered in praise: Each petal and stamen holds entire worlds within, Light and shadow merge and swallow—no boundary can be found. Only after traveling through Samantabhadra’s very pores, Do you realize it grew east of the City of Fortune.

中觀蓮花。頌曰按經中云：「有優缽羅地獄，此云青蓮花。復有波頭摩地獄，此云紅蓮花。」故云。劍樹刀山覿面呈，蓮花青赤倍分明。遮那身土從來遍，擬議思量轉似盲。

A verse says:</note><note place="inline">According to the sutras: "There is the Utpala Hell, called the Blue Lotus, and the Padma Hell, called the Red Lotus." This is the meaning.</note><row>Blade-trees and sword-mountains appear right before your face, While lotuses in blue and red shine ever clearer. The realm of Vairocana's body has always been everywhere— To ponder or reason it only makes you blinder still.</row>
