> Self-Composed Dharma Flower Hall Dialogues: Six Verses

> A question: You are never apart from it for a single step—so why can’t you show it or name it?

> Answer: When you try to pick it up or define it, it's no longer what it truly is.

> O Tiger! Lost and frantic, I charged at the mirror, For ages howling—but never was I mad. And then this dawn, I touched the face that’s always been: — Oh, look—both hands hang low, just like they always are.

> "It's made perfectly clear."

> <note>Verse</note> Clearly, it's shown without any fault or mistake— Step by step, how could you ever be apart from it? If you still ask, "What is this?" and "What is that?" It's like a barbarian playing the barbarian flute beneath the moon.

> Second Question: Since it can be explained clearly, why can’t it be put to use?

> Answer: What is it that you're talking about?

> Daily tea and meals, three times a day— Once full, you forget hunger and cold completely. The only fear is that few can truly savor this taste, Instead seeking phoenix brain and dragon liver.

> <note>Further Answer</note> Not a single step ever leaves.

> <note place="inline">Verse</note> Clearly, step by step, it is never apart from you— In daily life, in ordinary moments, everything is it. Yet strange how spring’s light spreads over peach and plum— Who truly knows the east wind’s tidings?

> Third Question: Are the Three Bodies and the Three Natures the same or different?

> Answer: Tell me—are they the same or different?

> Here is the translation of the provided Buddhist verse: A verse says: The Three Natures and the Three Bodies are separate, yet the same. Clearly pointed out, no need to amalgamate them. Only pitiable are the three dogs in the village, Barking and howling in the moonlight at a clump of grass.

> Fourth Question: Can all dharmas be analyzed in terms of four statements? For example, regarding the Three Bodies, how would we construct these four statements?

> Answer: The Four Phrases are completely clear and distinct.

> <verse> When seeing all things are born of causes and conditions without fixed nature, One finds understanding everywhere within reach. Existence and non-existence, principle and phenomena, all inter-contain one another. Even the tiniest particle must possess spatial dimensions— How could a vague, muddled view ever penetrate this truth? </verse>
