> Twelve Admonitions on Calming and Insight

> Actions have no true coming or going; false feelings only disturb. When you understand that action is not action, the greatest clumsiness becomes perfect skill.

> Remaining centered and unattached does not yet constitute deep meditation. Only when you understand that abiding itself is without abiding do you truly realize the nature of stillness.

> When you're sitting in meditation but still clinging to body and mind, you end up either restless or regretful. Truly understanding that sitting is not really "sitting" allows you to enter the ocean of samadhi.

> Even if ten thousand good deeds remain incomplete, Do not fall into the prison of ignorance. Understand that true "rest" is beyond the act of lying down— Only by walking in the dream can one truly fulfill the path.

> Carrying firewood and drawing water, the body is naturally serene. Acting without contrivance, it is the great white ox cart.

> Names and words are empty by nature. What reality could they capture? To abandon all grasping—this is what all Buddhas have affirmed.

> Seeing sights is like flowers in the sky or the moon on water—where do they go or come from? True seeing is not seeing, so do not jump to hasty conclusions.

> <note place="inline">Sound</note>An empty valley echoes the cry — the true Dharma always expounded. When what is heard, and the act of hearing, both cease, Then blossoms open and a fountain springs forth.

> Sandalwood and orchids—which is fragrant, which is foul? The nostrils remain as they are, already transcending the human world.

> Dreaming of enjoying delicious foods, upon waking you don't wipe your lips. The nature of eating is emptiness—why trouble yourself with pleasure or anger?

> <note place="inline">The awareness of sensation</note> When detached, there is nothing that exists; When attached, what is there to concern? No pain to feel, no feeling of pain — Unmoved by knife or flame.

> Understanding the Dharma: The Dharma arises from the mind, and the mind transforms along with the Dharma—elusive, leaving no trace, like the moon sinking into an ancient stream.
