> Two Poems for New Year's Day

> The sound of firecrackers announces spring in the hidden valley, Pines and bamboos, all freshly renewed. Spring water from the dragon tree tastes like honey, Rocks anchor the grand peak, moss layered like fish scales. Sessions of chanting continue through the three watches, following the water clock, Commentaries and treatises open in hundreds of volumes, like those of the ancient master. Moreover, we have formed the Eastern Grove Society, And every kindred spirit here is a devotee of the Dharma Treasury.

> When Dharma Treasury once made his vast vows, Countless ages have passed with fellow seekers on this path. At year's dawn, choose the Buddha and return to perfect awakening; Under moonlit nights, pass the lamp to reveal the nature's clarity. Ten thousand bamboos receive the new decree early, A thousand plum blossoms already show their former fragrance. All virtuous ones should trust I hide nothing— Quickly join with noble beings to continue our ancient pact.

> <note place="inline">This set consists of ten volumes. After the Bing Shen year \[1656\], new printing blocks were carved in Xin'an for three and a half of these volumes. The project was initiated by Ye Jingyan, who contributed twenty taels of silver. Assisting donors included Shi Zhixun, Li Zhiwei (ten taels), Hu Gongzhu (ten taels), Bao Ruxian, Wu Jingzhi, and others. Later, Ye Zhenan (fifty taels), Su Kaizuo (forty taels), and Wu Jingdi (ten taels) joined forces to fund the carving of another six and a half volumes, thus completing the entire work. I am deeply grateful that this karmic connection was not easily formed, and have briefly recorded the donors' names here. As for the merit and virtue of ultimate blessings and adornments, they are naturally endowed and beyond what any words can fully express. Recorded with palms joined in reverence, in the winter month of the Ji Hai year \[1659\].</note>
