### 三七、宋太原某庵尼智藏傳

> Thirty-Seven: Biography of Nun Zhizang of a Certain Convent in Taiyuan, Song Dynasty

智藏，太原人。特事地藏菩薩，欣求西方淨土，捨錢二百文，畫阿彌陀像、左右脅士，地藏、觀音二體，安置房舍，信心禮供。太平興國五年庚辰，大風拔木破屋，藏之所住，亦罹於災。明日，尋像所在，一併失之，心生憂惱。祈念地藏菩薩，已而仰視虛空，遙見一物，飄忽不定，數數放光如電。一時許，盤折下地，拾而視之，即所求像也。藏不勝歡喜，如舊安置屋內，供事愈虔。至七年二月二十三日，語朋友曰：「地藏菩薩導吾於淨土，明日決定可終。」燒香散花，唱三尊名號各一百八遍，端坐合掌，向西方而卒。

> Zhicang was from Taiyuan. He devoted himself especially to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and earnestly sought rebirth in the Western Pure Land. He donated two hundred coins to have an image of Amitabha Buddha painted, flanked by two attendants: Ksitigarbha and Guanyin. He enshrined it in his home, offering sincere reverence and worship. In the fifth year of the Taiping Xingguo era, during the Gengchen year, a great storm uprooted trees and destroyed houses. Zhicang’s dwelling was also struck by the disaster. The next day, when he searched for the whereabouts of the image, it was completely missing. Distressed and troubled, he prayed to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. After a while, he looked up into the sky and saw a distant object floating and swaying, repeatedly emitting flashes of light like lightning. After about an hour, it spiraled down to the ground. Picking it up and looking at it, he found it was exactly the image he had been seeking. Overwhelmed with joy, Zhicang placed it back in his house as before, and his offerings and devotion grew even more earnest. On the twenty-third day of the second month in the seventh year, he said to his friends, “Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is guiding me to the Pure Land. Tomorrow, I am certain to pass away.” He burned incense, scattered flowers, and chanted the names of the three honored ones one hundred and eight times each. Then, sitting upright with palms joined, he faced the west and passed away.
