### 五三、宋海鹽法雲寺尼正覺傳

> Biography of Zhengjue, Nun of Fayun Temple in Haining, Song Dynasty

正覺，海鹽人，樞密郭三益孫女，適雲間葉氏，早寡。誓節為尼，居法雲寺，蒲團靜坐，參究本來面目。焚香掃地，清閒自適，間為詩歌，而寓化導。有絕句云：「春朝湖上風兼雨，世事如花落又開。退省閉門真樂處，閒雲終日去還來。幽鳥枝頭不住聲，天開雨霽一窗晴。西來妙意非文字，金屑休教落眼睛。」

> Zhengjue, a native of Haiyan, was the granddaughter of Privy Councilor Guo Sanyi. She married into the Ye family of Yunjian but was widowed early. Vowing to preserve her chastity, she became a nun and resided at Fayun Temple. There, she sat quietly on a rush cushion, contemplating her original nature. She would burn incense, sweep the floor, and enjoy a life of quiet leisure. Occasionally, she composed poems to convey teachings of transformation and guidance. Among them are these quatrains: "On the lake in spring morn, wind and rain mingle; Worldly affairs are like blossoms—they fall, then bloom again. Retreating to reflect behind closed doors is true joy— Idle clouds come and go, all day long." "On the branch, a hidden bird sings without cease; The sky clears after rain, a window full of sunlight. The wondrous meaning from the West is not in words— Let no fleck of gold dust fall into the eye."
