### 西園曲水

> Garden of Winding Waters

本張氏故園副使道黃晟購得之，加修葺焉。其地當保障湖一曲對岸。又昔賢修禊之所，因取禊序流觴曲水之義以名之。園在卷石洞天之右臨河為觴詠樓樓後為濯清堂堂左曲室數重堂後穿竹徑迤西為水榭堂右為土山植叢，桂山以南為歌臺，臺西由曲廊北折為新月樓樓右為拂柳亭亭右由長廊再折而北臨池南向為樓，仿西域形製曰水明樓樓左一帶，高樓邃閣繞濯清堂而東前與曲室相接。

> This estate was originally purchased and renovated by Huang Sheng, the Deputy Commissioner of the Zhang family's former garden. It sits on the opposite bank of a bend in Baozhang Lake. It was also a place where ancient sages held spring purification rites, so it was named after the meaning of "flowing cups along the winding stream" from the Orchid Pavilion Preface. The garden lies to the right of Juanshi Cave Heaven, bordering the river. There stands the Pavilion of Poetry and Wine by the water; behind it is the Cleansing Hall. To the left of the hall are several chambers winding inward. Passing through a bamboo path behind the hall, one reaches a waterside pavilion to the west. To the right of the hall is an earthen hill planted with cassia trees; south of the hill is a singing stage. West of the stage, a winding corridor leads north to the Crescent Moon Tower. To its right is the Willow-Touching Pavilion, and east of that, following a long corridor and turning north again, one comes to a tower facing the pond from the south, built in a Western style and named the Water-Mirror Tower. To its left, a series of tall towers and deep chambers stretches along the east side of the Cleansing Hall, connecting ahead with the winding chambers.
