### 高詠樓

> Lofty Chanting Pavilion

按察使李志勳園：乾隆二十七年，我皇上臨幸賜今名，又賜山堂返棹留閒，憩畫閣開牕，納景光一聯。園之景曰蜀岡，朝旭園門南向，隱太湖石側，入門迤北，為來春堂御書高詠樓三字石刻供堂內。南逾小山，有屋深五尺，廣一丈以擬。歐公畫舫，顏曰數椽瀟灑。臨溪屋東折過小橋，北登曠如亭。又北過橋為流，香艇再由，長廊以北，矗然特起，是為高詠。樓內供皇上御書樓額樓前為石臺，隔岸與石壁流淙，對蜀岡松翠峙其東北隅據一園之勝焉。樓左為含青室，室，後為初日。軒室左度橋為青桂山房室，後曰跳，聽烟霞其右為十字廳廳。後北折循長堤，登山有亭曰指顧。三山亭後，東折而下，其北為射圃，右為竹樓，由射圃前直，北至園外，為草香亭亭。右即萬松疉翠也。園內外皆水繚以周垣列置湖石，雜植梅柳桂竹，牡丹荷花，春夏之交，延覽不盡。

> \*\*Li Zhixun's Garden of the Surveillance Commissioner\*\* In the twenty-seventh year of the Qianlong reign, the Emperor visited and bestowed its present name. He also presented a couplet: "Returning by boat from the mountain hall, stay a while; open the painted pavilion's window and take in the light of the scenery." The garden's main vista is called Shugang, facing the morning sun. Its gate opens to the south, tucked beside a Taihu rock. Entering and heading north, one reaches Laichun Hall, where a stone inscription of the Emperor's calligraphy, "High Chanting Tower," is enshrined. South across a small hill stands a house five chi deep and one zhang wide, modeled after Ouyang Xiu's painted boat, bearing the name "A Few Beams of Unrestrained Elegance." East of the house by the stream, one crosses a small bridge, then heads north to ascend the Pavilion of Openness. Further north, crossing another bridge, one reaches the Fragrant Boat. Continuing along the long corridor northward, a towering structure rises—this is the High Chanting Tower. The Emperor's calligraphy plaque adorns it. Before the tower lies a stone terrace; across the water, it faces the Stone Wall with Flowing Springs. The green pines of Shugang stand sentinel at its northeastern corner, commanding the garden's finest views. To the left of the tower is the Verdant Chamber, behind which is the Pavilion of the Rising Sun. Crossing a bridge to the left of the chamber lies the Cassia Mountain House. Behind it is the Leap, Listening to Mist and Cloud. To its right stands the Cross Hall. Behind the hall, turning north along the embankment, one ascends to a pavilion called Pointing at the Three Mountains. Behind it, one descends to the east, where to the north lies the Archery Field and to the right the Bamboo Tower. Straight ahead from the Archery Field, passing north beyond the garden, is the Fragrant Grass Pavilion. To its right is the Myriad Pines in Layered Verdure. The entire garden, inside and out, is encircled by water and bounded by walls. Lake rocks are arranged throughout, and plum, willow, osmanthus, and bamboo are planted liberally. Peonies and lotuses bloom in turn, offering endless views in late spring and early summer.
