> The Sutra to Mogallāna

八三五

> Eight hundred and thirty-five.

「愛貪不樂三魔女 我對淫行已無欲糞尿穢身作何為 連觸其足皆不欲」

> "Three demon maidens of lust and craving, I have no desire for sensual acts. What use is a body of filth and foulness? I would not even wish to touch its feet."

「諸多帝王所尋求 如斯女寶汝不欲任何見戒與勤勞 汝說活命有生起」

> "Many kings have sought such a precious woman, yet you do not desire her. Any sight, discipline, or effort you speak of arises from the life of existence."

> Eight hundred thirty-seven

世尊言曰：「摩健地耶

> The World-Honored One said: "Māgandiya,

我從未有如斯說 諸法取著我確知諸見過患不取著 省察內寂為我見」（三）

> I have never taught such a doctrine, That one should grasp at things with self-certainty. Seeing the faults in all views, I do not cling—observing inwardly, I rest in peace.

> Eight hundred and thirty-eight.

摩健地耶曰：

> Mojian Diye said:

「一切徧計見決定 汝對此等不取著尊師所宣內寂義 慧者云何作此說」

> "All views of conceptual grasping are fixed and certain, yet you do not cling to them. How could the wise speak thus of the inner peace proclaimed by the Master?"

世尊曰：「摩健地耶

> The World-Honored One said: “Magandiya,

依見依聞及依智 依戒依行不言淨無見無聞及無智 無戒無行不言淨放棄此等無取著 不依寂有斯為淨」

> Based on what you see, hear, or think you know, Based on rules or conduct, you cannot be purified. Without seeing, hearing, or knowing, Without rules or conduct, you cannot be purified either. Let go of all these, cling to nothing, Not relying on stillness or existence—this is true purity.

> Eight hundred and forty.

摩健地耶曰：

> Mokandiya said:

「依見依聞及依智 依戒依行不言淨無見無聞及無智 無戒無行不言淨我思此為愚迷法 諸人依見乃解淨」

> "Relying on sight, hearing, and intellect, Relying on precepts and practices—do not call this purity. Without sight, hearing, or intellect, Without precepts or practices—do not call this purity. I consider this a deluded teaching— People rely on sight to understand purity."

> Eight hundred and forty-one.

世尊曰：「摩健地耶

> The Blessed One said: "Magandiya,

汝今依見續重問 汝為取著陷迷昧內寂絕不見微想 故我說汝為愚迷

> Now you persist in questioning based on your views, You are trapped in clinging and confusion. Within, all is still, not the slightest thought arises— Thus I say you are lost in ignorance.

諸人思念等勝劣 彼等依此起諍論對此三者不動搖 於彼可謂無等勝

> People compare and judge, thinking of better or worse, And from this, arguments arise. But one who remains unmoved by these three, Can truly be called unsurpassed.

我說真理何須論 汝說虛妄又何諍等與不等不思念 彼之諍論又何關

> I speak the truth, why argue? You speak falsehood, why contend? Equal or unequal, do not dwell on it— What concern is their dispute to you?

捨棄窟宅無標榜 牟尼於村不親暱諸欲空無不重視 異執人等不與論

> Leaving his cave, he made no show. The sage did not seek closeness in the village. He saw desires as empty, gave them no weight, and did not argue with those who clung to different views.

遠離世間遊行所 取著惡見不與論猶如水蓮蕀莖蓮 如出污泥而不染牟尼論寂無貪求 世間諸欲無染著

> Far from the world's wandering paths, He does not engage with those who cling to wrong views. Like a lotus on a thorny stem, He rises from the mud yet remains unstained. The Sage speaks of stillness, free from craving, Unstained by the desires of the world.

吠陀達人依見覺 彼不參與不至慢雖依業聞不被導 不為諸著所牽引

> The wise one, grounded in true insight, does not cling to views or fall into pride. Though acting and learning, they are not led astray, nor are they dragged down by any attachment.

以想離貪無繫縛 慧解脫者無有癡執想與見眾人等 衝突者彷徨世間」

> By letting go of desire, one is freed from bondage; Wisdom liberates, leaving no trace of delusion. Those who cling to thoughts and views, like most people, Wander in conflict through the world.
