燃燈佛之預言
燃燈世尊，前來彼處，近至善慧行者之頭而止立。如開鏤有摩尼珠獅子之欄，佛睜五色淨光之眼，見臥泥土上之善慧行者，佛以意識探向未來：「此行者決心成佛而臥此處。然行者之願望能否達成？」佛知：「行者此後經四阿僧祇十萬劫，將成名謂瞿曇佛。」佛立其處，向群眾中預言，佛言：「汝等眾人！見此處有極度苦行之行者，臥於泥土之上耶？」諸人：「尊師！予等確已見到。」佛：「彼決心要成佛而臥，其願望必達。由此四阿僧祇十萬劫後，將成名謂瞿曇佛。生於迦比羅衛城，母摩耶夫人，父淨飯王，優婆帝沙（舍利弗）長老為最上首弟子，拘利多（目犍連）為第二弟子，阿難陀為佛侍者，讖摩長老尼為最上首之女弟子，烏婆羅般那（蓮華色）長老尼為第二女弟子。智慧成熟，為大出家，行大精進，於榕樹下受乳糜供養，往尼連禪河之畔，登上菩提道場，於阿說他（菩提）樹下得上正覺。」於此，如是述偈：
The World-Honored One, Dipankara, approached and stood at the head of the ascetic Sumedha. Like a lion cage inlaid with precious gems, the Buddha opened his eyes with their five-colored pure light, and seeing Sumedha lying on the ground, the Buddha looked into the future through his mind: "This ascetic is resolved to become a Buddha and lies here. But can his wish come true?" The Buddha knew: "After four incalculable eons and a hundred thousand kalpas, this ascetic will become known as the Buddha Gotama." Standing there, the Buddha declared to the assembled crowd: "People! Do you see this ascetic practicing extreme austerity, lying on the ground?" The people replied: "Venerable Teacher! We see him." The Buddha said: "He lies here with firm resolve to become a Buddha, and his wish will certainly be fulfilled. After four incalculable eons and a hundred thousand kalpas, he will be known as the Buddha Gotama. He will be born in Kapilavastu, with Queen Maya as his mother and King Suddhodana as his father. The elder Sariputta will be his foremost disciple, the elder Moggallana his second disciple, and Ananda his attendant. The elder nun Khema will be his foremost female disciple, and the elder nun Uppalavanna his second female disciple. With wisdom fully matured, he will renounce the world, practice great diligence, receive the milk-rice offering under a banyan tree, go to the banks of the Nerañjara River, ascend to the seat of enlightenment, and attain perfect awakening under the Bodhi tree." Thereupon, this verse was spoken.

予之頭邊立 而為說此語
Knowing the world, the Lamp-Lighter, received offerings accordingly, Standing by my head, he spoke these words.

「見結髮行者 極度行苦行
經由無量劫 出世彼成佛

如來降生處 城名迦比羅
遁出由樂都 精進行難行

如來〔行苦行〕 牧羊樹下坐
供養受乳糜 入尼連禪河

勝者由河出 往岸納乳糜
尋訪善整道 附近菩提樹

最上菩提場 為行右繞禮
菩提樹下覺 有大榮譽人

此佛之出生 母名為摩耶
父名淨飯王 彼名為瞿曇

舍利弗目連 上位二弟子

侍者阿難陀 常隨於勝者

離貪成無漏 得定心寂靜
世尊菩提樹 名為阿說他」
When you transcend craving, you become undefiled. Attaining concentration, the mind becomes still and clear. The World-Honored One’s Bodhi tree Is called the Ashvattha.
