佛言：「汝等比丘！此者為田舍之裁縫師所欺，非自今始，前生即已同樣受欺。」佛述此法語後，連結作本生今昔之結語：「爾時住祇園之裁縫師是昔之鷺，住田舍之裁縫師是此蟹，樹神實即是我。」

> The Buddha said: “Monks, this incident is not the first time this tailor from the village has been deceived. In a previous life, he was just as easily tricked.” After telling this story, the Buddha connected it to the present and past lives: “The tailor living in the Jeta Grove was the heron of that past life. The tailor from the village was the crab. And the tree spirit in this tale was none other than myself.”
