> The Way originally has no name, and because it has no name, it can be called the Way. Master Lao said: "I do not know its name, so I reluctantly call it the Way." This Way moves through the four seasons without omission, governs all things without confusion, dwells amidst afflictions without harm, rests in meditation without emptiness. Heaven and earth rely on it, sages illuminate it, ordinary people are blind to it, birds and beasts are ignorant of it. At times it settles into mountains, flows into water, rumbles as thunder, drifts as clouds. The sun makes day, the moon makes night, stars scatter across the sky, and clarity spreads through space. Master Dongpo said: "Mountain forms are the Dharma body; valley sounds are the long tongue." How profound! Shiqin, a native of Tongliang, shaved his head in childhood and deeply sought the ultimate Way. Now he requests words of Dharma to serve as a pointing guide. The mountain monk laughs and says: "Is that so? All day long you dwell within it yet do not perceive it—who is the one blinded? When hungry, you eat; when cold, you wear clothes; when thirsty, you drink; when weary, you rest. What is not the Way? Who is blind to the Way? Knowing is itself the Way—what is not its wonder? Empty and still, deep and bright, all of it is the essential point." National Master Zhong said: "The bustling capitals of Jingdu and Yedu—all of it is the great path of enlightenment." If you understand it this way, then without waiting for the mountain monk's guidance, the temple superintendent has already guided himself.
