### 寶珠潭

> Precious Pearl Pool

在大澳北岸。虎山與獅山水口交界處。有土丘墳起。形圓如珠。四泓碧水。名為寶珠潭。南向有古廟一間。供奉楊侯王。考其鑄鐘刻康熙三十八年造。其錫香案刻咸豐十年。堪稱古廟。至光緒三年丁丑闔澳值事鄭榮貴等重修寶珠潭楊侯王廟碑云。

> On the northern shore of Tai O, at the confluence of Tiger Hill and Lion Hill, there is a raised earthen mound, round in shape like a pearl. Four clear pools of water surround it, known as the Precious Pearl Pond. To the south stands an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Yang Hou. According to the inscribed bell, it was cast in the 38th year of the Kangxi era, and the incense altar bears an inscription from the 10th year of the Xianfeng era, truly making it an ancient temple. In the third year of the Guangxu era, Ding Chou, the community leaders of the entire Tai O area, including Zheng Ronggui, restored the Temple of Lord Yang Hou at Precious Pearl Pond, as recorded in the stele.

蓋聞祗園寶樹。曾鋪長者之金。蜀道浮屠。尚待尊官之力。則欲支大廈。必使羣材朗矣。我澳楊侯古廟。歷創有年。座擁嶼山。大列岡巒之體勢。澳環碧水。極窮海島之縈迴。正是山川毓秀。寶藏興焉。珠潭映輝。福地名矣。遐邇祈禱。咸沐洪庥。民物安阜。均沾大德。是以地因神而靈。不特施威風於宋代。廟得寶而顯。猶本布法雨於海隅也云云。

> I have heard that in the Jeta Grove, the precious trees were once adorned with the gold of the Elder; on the road to Shu, the pagoda still awaited the strength of noble officials. Thus, to support a great hall, one must gather many materials—this is clear. Our Ao Yanghou Ancient Temple has been established for many years. Seated amidst the island mountains, it stands grandly with the majestic form of the ridges; surrounded by emerald waters, it reaches the far ends of the winding sea. Truly, the mountains and rivers nurture beauty, treasures flourish here; the pearl pond reflects radiance, making this a blessed land. From near and far, prayers are offered, all receiving great blessings; the people and all things are peaceful and prosperous, all sharing in its great virtue. Thus, the land becomes sacred through the divine presence, not only displaying its awe in the Song Dynasty; the temple gains prominence through its treasures, continuing to spread the Dharma rain in this coastal corner.

廟門口刻石聯云。擁鵲嶺而為屏。靈鍾秀毓。控鳳山而作鎮。物阜民康。廟內花圃刻聯云。檻外雲山開眼界。窻前潭水活文機。又聯云。鳥欲娛人嬌語轉。花如愛客笑顏開。

> At the temple gate, a stone couplet is inscribed: \*Embracing Magpie Ridge as its screen,\* \*It gathers spiritual energy and nurtures excellence.\* \*Commanding Phoenix Mountain as its guardian,\* \*It brings prosperity to all and peace to the people.\* Within the temple garden, another couplet is carved: \*Beyond the railing, clouds and mountains broaden the mind;\* \*Before the window, pond waters inspire the flow of thought.\* And yet another: \*Birds, wishing to delight, sing with charming turns;\* \*Flowers, as if loving guests, bloom with smiling faces.\*
