### 厨房條規

> Kitchen Regulations

寸薪粒米。當知來處之艱難。滴水殘虀。須念作時之非易。既不肯暴殄於天物。更當思調和夫眾口。酸鹹適味。香甘得宜。慎重烹飪。勿生輕忽。以供養為懷。不貪果腹。雖隨眾作務。常抱道心。粥飯三時。不得一朝失誤。晨昏二課。何妨數刻清修。銘曰

> A single stick of firewood, a single grain of rice—we should be mindful of the difficulty in obtaining them. A drop of water, a leftover scrap—we must remember how hard it was to produce them. Since we refuse to waste the gifts of heaven, we should also consider how to satisfy everyone’s taste. Sour and salty should be balanced, fragrant and sweet should be just right. Cook with care, never with negligence. Let your heart be filled with offering, not with greed for a full stomach. Even while working alongside everyone, always keep the mind on the Way. The three daily meals of porridge and rice—do not fail even once. The morning and evening practices—why not take a few moments for pure cultivation? The inscription says:

雪峰飯頭溈山典座古德芳風　於今未墮攝爾狂心慎爾口過運水搬柴　毋忘者個堂內坐禪　堂外禪坐誰知傳衣　不離碓磨故此行門　佛天所喜求福則得　造業則失勤謹廉隅　求福之本偏眾懈怠　造業之基謹遵規銘　為此良師

> Xuefeng the rice cook, Guishan the kitchen chief, The noble ways of ancient sages have not faded to this day. Restrain your restless mind, guard well the words you say. Carrying water, hauling firewood—never forget this way. Sitting in meditation in the hall, practicing Zen outside it too— Who would have known the robe’s transmission lies in mortar and pestle’s view? Thus, this practice gate is what the Buddhas and heavens delight in. Seek blessings, and blessings you shall gain; create karma, and you lose within. Diligence, care, integrity, and restraint—these are the roots of merit’s gain. Indulging the crowd, growing slack—these are the grounds where faults remain. Follow closely these rules and teachings, for they are your excellent guide.

-   概不許別處私食及私留鮮美自食者罰早課不上殿者罰竊取常住油米食物者倍罰出院
-   菜頭洗切大眾菜辦齋等事一齊相幫不到者罰
-   飯頭煮大眾粥飯洗鍋二飯相幫抬飯器推諉失事者罰
-   貼案收拾客菜小火頭燒火雜務洗鍋留私菜者重罰
-   雜務到庫房取客菜偷取私留者重罰出院
-   厨房高聲大叫者罰飲酒賭博者重罰出院
-   設齋日頭堂所剩腐菜晚粥再供大眾不得棄擲違者罰
-   不得將滾湯潑地上傷蟲蟻命違者罰
