> Teaching the Assembly

當此像季，身服田衣，宿生善因，極不容易。須要念德修德，知恩報恩，但以深究死生為第一件大事。不圖名，不苟利，除人我見，蕩生滅心，大小和睦，內外恭敬，有善相贊，有過相規，惟道是務，勿管是非，此謂之聖賢之聚會。不然，滴水粒米，無非鐵丸銅汁，可不畏與？當共勉之。

> In this decline of the teaching era, wearing the field-patterned robe is no easy matter, for it comes from virtuous seeds planted in past lives. One must nurture virtue through mindfulness, recognize kindness and repay it, with deep investigation into the great matter of birth and death as the foremost priority. Seek no fame, pursue no personal gain. Abandon the view of self and others, dissolve the mind that clings to arising and ceasing. Let great and small live in harmony, let inner and outer show mutual respect. Praise one another’s goodness, counsel each other’s faults—make the Way your only concern, and leave right and wrong aside. This is what is meant by a true gathering of sages. Otherwise, every drop of water and every grain of rice will become nothing but iron pellets and molten copper. Is this not a thing to fear? Let us all be diligent.
