> Ancient Pine Sings: Celebrating Layman Xi Meng's Seventieth Birthday

君為松寫真，松為君傳神，一實無有二，如眼不容塵。託跡煙霞裏，三玅更可人，藤蘿渾艸聖，詩句入秋新。山泉為俸祿，再世大夫身，良匠幸不遇，玄鶴忻主賓。有時發清籟，儼如聽雅論，栽松人七十，松老不知春。

> You paint a true portrait of the pine, And the pine conveys your spirit too— In truth, there is no separation between you two, Like the eye, which cannot bear a single speck of dust. Dwelling in mist and clouds, Three wonders bring even more delight: Vines and creepers—wild and free like masterful calligraphy; Lines of poetry, fresh as autumn’s first light. Mountain springs are your salary, In this life, you are truly a noble person. Though fine craftsmen seldom appear, A dark crane delights in the bond of host and guest. Sometimes a clear sound arises, As if listening to elegant discourse. The one who planted the pine is now seventy, The pine grows old, yet never knows the spring.
