### 五十初度有引

> Entering Fifth Decade

乙巳五月十四日，乃山僧半百之辰，承源檀越聞府寶眷，併諸山法屬，暨會下門人等，各殷勤致祝，不及一一裁謝。統答五偈。

> On the fourteenth day of the fifth month, the year of the Snake, I, this mountain monk, reached the age of fifty. I am indebted to the lay patron Yuan, the noble family of the Wen residence, the Dharma companions from the various temples, and the disciples gathered here, each of whom kindly offered their congratulations. I cannot express my thanks to each one individually, so I offer five verses in collective response.

親恩鞠育重山丘，刳髓塗肝未足酬，彌月舉州稱慶誕，虛空莫掩面門羞。

> The kindness of parents is as heavy as a mountain, Even grating one’s marrow and smearing one’s liver wouldn’t repay it. For a full month the whole prefecture celebrated my birth, Yet the vast sky cannot hide the shame on my face.

年及知非道無補，自慚虛度好時光，惟憑格外千龍象，共續曹溪一脈長。

> As the years of understanding approach, my path has been incomplete— I feel ashamed for wasting these precious days in vain. Now I rely solely on the countless awakened ones beyond compare, To continue the long legacy of the Chan lineage.

莢吐望前餘一葉，蓮開夏仲碧千枝，無情解記山僧誕，葉葉枝枝字字詩。

父母未生前一著，謝君為我邈將來，爐薰清供山堂裏，彷彿青蓮壁上開。

> Before parents gave birth, that one true nature— Thank you, friend, for painting it here for me. In the quiet mountain hall, with incense burning clear, It seems a blue lotus blooms upon the wall.

虛空原是一胞胎，筋斗打翻知幾回，看破空王未始劫，了無八字可安排。
