第三十二世笑巖德寶禪師 > The Thirty-Second Patriarch, Chan Master Xiaoyan Debao 師金臺吳氏子，聞巨雷震而誕。出家廣慧，參無聞和尚，於十聖三賢機語不契。一日，洗菜次，偶一莖菜墮水，逐流圜轉，捉不著，忽然頓省。一日，聞問：「人人有箇父母，子之父母今在何處？」師曰：「一火焚之。」曰：「恁麼則子無父母耶？」師曰：「有即有，只是佛眼覷不見。」曰：「子還見麼？」師曰：「亦不見。」曰：「為甚不見？」師曰：「若見則非真父母。」聞深肯之。 > Master Jin was the son of the Wu family from Taizhou. He was born at the sound of a great thunderclap. He left home to become a monk under Master Guanghui and later studied under Master Wuwen. At first, he struggled to grasp the teachings of the ten sages and three worthies. One day, while washing vegetables, a single stalk fell into the water and spun in circles, just out of reach. In that moment, he suddenly understood. Another day, he was asked: "Everyone has parents. Where are your parents now?" The master replied, "They were cremated." The questioner said, "So you have no parents?" The master answered, "They exist, but the Buddha's eye cannot see them." "Can you see them?" "I cannot see them either." "Why not?" "If I could see them, they would not be my true parents."
