> The Great Bodhisattva Mahāsthāmaprāpta spoke This Dharma, which is the practice of perfect absorption. The great sage King of Masters saved the practitioners, liberating them from the cycle of endless suffering and preventing them from falling into the lower realms. I bow to the one who enables beings to attain the highest, perfect enlightenment.

第三十四世密雲圓悟禪師

祖，宜興蔣氏子。因樵採，見一堆柴突露，有省。依龍池和尚脫白，未見倒斷，具威儀請益。池曰：「汝若到者田地，便放身倒臥。」祖益疑。一日過銅棺山，忽大悟。自此機緣屢契。後池撾鼓上堂，授祖衣拂。及池示寂，守塔三載，眾請繼席。開堂次，住五大剎，重興天童，宗風大振。付法嗣十二位。于崇禎十五年七月初七日午時坐化。流光夜照，四山變白。壽七十七。全身塔於本山。贊曰：

> <note place="inline">The founder was from a Jiang family in Yixing. While gathering firewood, he noticed a pile of brushwood suddenly exposed, and had an insight. He left home under the monk Longchi, but had not yet attained complete clarity. Dressed in formal attire, he sought instruction. Longchi said: "If you have reached that state, you can simply let yourself fall down and lie flat." This increased the founder's doubt. One day, while passing Copper Coffin Mountain, he suddenly had great awakening. From then on, his encounters with the teachings repeatedly resonated. Later, Longchi struck the drum, ascended the hall, and transmitted the robe and whisk to the founder. When Longchi entered nirvana, the founder observed a three-year mourning period at his stupa. Then the assembly requested him to take over the abbacy. In succession, he led five major monasteries, revived Mount Tiantong, and his school's influence flourished greatly. He transmitted the Dharma to twelve successors. On the seventh day of the seventh month of the fifteenth year of the Chongzhen reign, at noon, he passed away in seated meditation. Light emanated all night, illuminating the surrounding mountains until they appeared white. He lived seventy-seven years. His full-body stupa was established on that mountain. Eulogy says:</note>

他方補處，此土樵夫。曹谿芳躅，千載合符。銅棺開眼，大地平沈。全提白棒，直指元辰。漏殿飛樓，應念成就。道播九重，公侯稽首。七十七年，普注法雨。大根小莖，盡量而已。二六法嗣，堪方四季。生化無窮，毫力不費。鳳眸龍姿，身掛紫衣。瞻禮遺像，渾是生機。

> <h1>His Eminence, the Great Master</h1> He who was a Bodhisattva in another realm, Now walks the mortal path as a simple woodcutter. The fragrant footsteps of Caoxi\*, Across a thousand years, perfectly align. When the bronze coffin opens its eyes, The vast earth sinks into stillness. He raises the pure white staff, Pointing directly to the primordial nature. The leaking hall, the flying eaves— All appear in response to a single thought. His teachings reach the highest courts; Nobles and lords bow low in reverence. For seventy-seven years, He poured down the Dharma rain. Great roots and small stems alike, Each drank their fill. His twenty-six Dharma heirs, Like the four seasons in their grace. Birth and transformation, endless and free— Yet not a hair's worth of effort spent. With phoenix eyes and dragon's bearing, He wears the purple robe. When we gaze upon this sacred image, All is vibrant, living truth. \*Caoxi: The mountain associated with the Sixth Patriarch Huineng, symbolizing authentic Chan/Zen lineage transmission.
