> Crossing the sea to visit Siming, Following the stream into a hidden valley, Gradually finding the path where birds fly, A thin staff supports me up the mountain's belly. The path winds around flower groves, Spring's beauty fully stored and burst, In the clear sky I climb vines and moss, Flower fragrance clings to my clothes. Higher still, to the emerald peak, I brush off three measures of dust; Looking down at the Dharma King's palace, Tiled roofs like scales cover all. Clear chimes ring far and wide, Incense clouds linger thick and long. A great monk comes to expound the Dharma, Wisdom's roots grow in our kind. Pure poems grace the bright mountains, His footsteps once roamed all of Western India, Hand in hand we speak of past and present, Reciting the praises of Xuedou. He once answered a Song emperor's dream, Not like ordinary peaks that stand alone; There are stones with four windows bright, The mountain's heart embraces endless green. Cloud villages stretch twenty miles, Peach coves number thirty-six, Where the ancients once asked for directions, Each village differs from the next in woodcutters and herdsmen. Red Waters and Cinnabar Mountains, Hidden pools play like lutes and zithers, Listed as the ninth grotto-heaven, Residents enjoy pure blessings. This scenic realm leans to the southeast, The temple retains trees from Jin and Tang, Twin springs converge beneath the hall, Flowing out as a thousand-yard waterfall. In June one sees flying snow, Jade dragons chasing one another; Bridge pavilions lock the clear stream, Towers and terraces offer lofty views. Ancient masters left wondrous cloud-shaped rocks, Pagoda Mountain connects with pines and bamboo, Coiling dragon and crouching tiger, Towering steeply, striking to the eye. The land's spirit breeds mighty talents, Looking around, all mountains bow low. The bright moon hangs over the high peak, In the meditation room, orchids and orchids perfume the air.
