### 三　有情本死中生

> Chapter 3: Birth, Death, and Rebirth of Sentient Beings

有情之無始流轉者即四有：一、本有，即現在有。二、臨死一剎那時曰死有。三、死後應另得到一生，在未得後生之時則曰中有；或死時即得後生，即無中有。四、及至初生之一剎那，則曰生有。由此循環無端，吾人平時只知本有為一生，不知四有流轉循環不息。

> The endless cycle of sentient beings revolves through four states of existence: 1. \*\*Present Existence\*\* — this includes your current lifetime. 2. \*\*Death Moment\*\* — the single instant of dying. 3. \*\*Intermediate State\*\* — the period between death and the next birth. (If rebirth happens immediately at death, there is no intermediate state.) 4. \*\*Birth Moment\*\* — the single instant of being born again. This creates an unending loop. People usually think there is only one state (the present life), unaware that these four states circulate continuously without cease.
