> Part 1: General Overview

於覺分、度、地，有別障應知。

> Regarding the factors of enlightenment, deliverance, and stages, one should understand that there are specific obstacles to each.

言覺分者，覺即菩提，分謂支分，就是平常所說的三十七菩提分法，這裡簡稱曰覺分。能障修此覺分的，即名覺分障。度、謂十度，亦名十波羅密，所謂施、戒、忍、進、定，慧、方、願、力、智的十種。依此十度，能度至彼岸。能障修此度者，名曰度障。地、謂十地，即初歡喜地乃至第十法雲地等，這是菩薩所修證的行位。為證此十地之障者，名曰地障。

> The awakening factor: here, "awakening" means enlightenment, and "factors" refers to the components—this is what is commonly called the thirty-seven aids to enlightenment, referred to here simply as the awakening factors. What obstructs the practice of these awakening factors is called the obstacle of awakening factors. "Perfections" refers to the ten perfections, also known as the ten paramitas: giving, ethical conduct, patience, diligence, concentration, wisdom, skillful means, vows, power, and knowledge. Through these ten perfections, one can cross to the other shore. What obstructs the practice of these perfections is called the obstacle of perfections. "Stages" refers to the ten stages: from the first, the Stage of Joy, up to the tenth, the Stage of Dharma Cloud—these are the levels of practice and realization attained by bodhisattvas. What obstructs the realization of these ten stages is called the obstacle of stages.
