> Chapter 1: Two Minds Are Refuted

> If so, there would have to be two consciousnesses operating simultaneously within the mother's womb.

> All three vehicles agree that two instances of the same type, occurring at the same time and place, cannot arise together—there is no room for them, and they would serve no purpose. Thus, if two consciousnesses were said to operate simultaneously in the womb, it would contradict this universally accepted principle. If one claims that a new consciousness can arise alongside the previous one, then there would indeed be two consciousnesses turning together in the womb. On the other hand, if one claims they are a single consciousness, that too is unreasonable. The integrating consciousness is always neutral and non-defiled, while the consciousness that arises based on it can be virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral—since their natures differ, they cannot be one. However, if one accepts the storehouse consciousness as the underlying basis, there is no such flaw.
