### 三　依致用觀

> Chapter 3: The Contemplation of Purpose and Function

一、安慧專在得果，而於得果之行與解，不細分別。只求得果，則隨用何法，固無一定，故安慧之立義雖高，未免疏漏。二、火辯在證唯識理，務令直起智觀，而於一切言教義理之建立，亦不求精細。三、惟護法在以正教正思維，遣除由邪教邪思維所起之謬執，所謂以言遣言，令生勝解，解生乃能斷障證果。由如上說，安慧使人發心趨果，火辯使人作意求證，惟護法能善用名言，明確定立道理，使人就正理得正解，由解起行趨果，勢如破竹。故其致用較二家尤為切要。此則從賒而切，當以護法居後。

> First, Anhui focuses solely on attaining the fruit, without carefully distinguishing between the practice and understanding involved in reaching that fruit. Since the goal is simply to attain the fruit, whatever method is used is flexible, so although Anhui's framework is lofty, it inevitably lacks rigor. Second, Huobian aims at directly realizing the principle of consciousness-only, emphasizing the immediate arising of wisdom contemplation, without seeking precision in the establishment of doctrinal teachings and philosophical frameworks. Third, only Dharmapala uses proper teachings and proper contemplation to eliminate mistaken attachments arising from improper teachings and improper contemplation. This is the so-called "using words to dispel words," generating superior understanding—and once understanding arises, one can cut off obstructions and attain the fruit. From the above, Anhui inspires people to set their minds toward the fruit, Huobian directs people to focus on seeking realization, but only Dharmapala skillfully employs language, clearly establishes principles, and enables people to gain correct understanding through correct reasoning—then from understanding, they embark on practice and move toward the fruit, with the momentum of splitting bamboo. Therefore, his practical application is even more essential than the other two approaches. This progression moves from general to specific, and thus Dharmapala should be placed last.
