> Ancient masters in our land generally classified the scriptures and treatises into four main schools: First, the School that Establishes Reality, which asserts that all phenomena have an intrinsic nature. Second, the School that Destroys Reality, which asserts that phenomena have characteristics but no intrinsic substance—as taught in texts like the \*Satyasiddhi Śāstra\*. Third, the School that Destroys Characteristics, which asserts that even the characteristics of phenomena are empty—as taught in sutras like the \*Perfection of Wisdom\* collection. Fourth, the School that Reveals Reality, which reveals the ultimate, true meaning of the one vehicle and the true nature of reality—as taught in sutras like the \*Avataṃsaka\* and the \*Lotus Sutra\*. This sutra belongs to the fourth school. As for classifying teachings based on their texts, there are three types: First, the School that Mostly Speaks of Existence—though it mostly speaks of existence, it ultimately returns to emptiness—as in the Āgamas and other Hīnayāna sutras. Second, the School that Mostly Speaks of Emptiness—though it mostly speaks of emptiness, it does not obstruct existence—as in the \*Perfection of Wisdom\* sutras. Third, the School of Neither Emptiness nor Existence—it speaks of the two truths, conventional and ultimate: because they are not empty, they are called existent; because the attachment to self and to phenomena is empty, they are called empty—as in the \*Avataṃsaka\* and the \*Lotus Sutra\*. Based on the above, this sutra belongs to the School of the Ultimate True Meaning of the Middle Way. Yet it also encompasses all schools, because this sutra reveals the true nature of all phenomena and summarizes the methods for entering the supreme vehicle.
