甲、五乘共法與大乘不共法
佛法可分三類：一、五乘共法，即人、天、聲聞、緣覺、菩薩共法；此五乘共法中，人天善法為出世三乘之基礎。二、三乘共法，同為了脫生死超出輪轉之法，即聲聞之四諦，緣覺之十二因緣。三、大乘不共法，即發菩提心、廣度眾生、修學六度萬行成佛之法。此經在三大類中，以名優婆塞戒故，可為五乘共法；以明發菩提心、修學六度、廣度眾生故，又可為大乘不共法。所以此經可謂為五乘共法與大乘不共法；因之受持此經之戒者，即為菩薩優婆塞。
