Chapter 3: The Secret Accomplishment Mantras of Amoghapasha
The Mantra for Awakening to the True Nature says:
Om, the lotus, the protector, the one who is not to be transgressed, the one who is adorned with a garland of skulls, hum.
Empower the fragrant incense and burn it as an offering. Empower the white mustard seeds and fragrant water, then scatter them in all ten directions. Holding the incense burner, make this vow: "Awaken all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions, all heavenly beings, dragons, and eightfold protectors. Gather at the altar at this time and bestow your great blessings."
Next, the invocation mantra is spoken:
This mantra empowers the incense king, the fragrant water, and the white flower offerings. When presented to the ten directions, all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, along with all heavenly beings and protectors, will gather to offer their guardianship.
I sincerely offer this true prayer:
Oṃ, I bow to the great compassionate one, the great savior, the one who holds the mantra. I take refuge in the noble Avalokiteśvara. Bhruḥ bhuvaḥ svaḥ, hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ.
With this mantra empowered, the incense is lit and offered as a sacred gift. A prayer is spoken, inviting all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, all celestial beings and protectors, to gather and take their proper places. May they come with joy and grant their blessings and protection.
Next, the boundary-setting mantra is spoken:
Om, the Unfailing Vajra, firmly established, draw near, draw near, Svaha.
When this mantra is chanted over water sprinkled with white mustard seeds and scattered upon the ritual ground, that ground transforms into a Vajradhātu realm. Within a radius of seven yojanas, all malevolent beings—vināyakas, yakṣas, rākṣasas, spirits, ghosts, deities, and wicked humans—who come to cause disturbance will retreat, scatter, and flee, not daring even to look upon it.
Next, the mantra for manifesting spiritual transformations is spoken:
When this mantra is recited and white mustard seeds are scattered three times upon the ritual ground, the ground transforms into a vajra lion throne. If the seeds are scattered where one sits, that spot becomes a pure jeweled lotus seat. With robes arranged and mind composed, recite it calmly—soon you shall attain supreme, perfect enlightenment.
The Mantra for Purifying the Place of Abode:
This mantra, when held by the reciter, should be invoked in all places—whether cities, villages, monasteries, mountain retreats, hermitages, homes, palaces, or ritual grounds. Whether sitting, lying down, walking along a path, or eating, one should empower white mustard seeds or water and sprinkle them around. This purifies and consecrates the space, creating a boundary that prevents all Vināyakas from causing harm.
The Vajra Kilaya Mantra is as follows:
This mantra empowers an iron vajra spike, eight finger-widths in length. Empower a five-colored cord by reciting the mantra seven times over it, then tie it to the head of the spike. Drive the spike into the ground at the boundary of the ritual area. This will create a great protective boundary extending for seven yojanas. The ground will remain within this boundary for as long as the spike is not removed.
