Thus have I heard:
Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park, in Śrāvastī.
At that time, the World-Honored One said to the monks: "Form is impermanent. What is impermanent is suffering. What is suffering is not self. What is not self is not mine. One who contemplates in this way is said to have true right contemplation. Likewise, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are impermanent. What is impermanent is suffering. What is suffering is not self. What is not self is not mine. One who contemplates in this way is said to have true contemplation."
“Holy disciple, one who contemplates in this way grows weary of form, and weary of feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness. Growing weary, one becomes dispassionate; through dispassion, one attains liberation. In one who is liberated, the true knowledge arises: ‘Birth is exhausted, the holy life has been established, what needed to be done has been done; I myself know that I will not receive another future existence.’”
When the monks heard what the Buddha said, they rejoiced and put it into practice.
