Huayan Treatise
Before leaving the Tusita Heaven, He had already descended into the royal palace. Before emerging from His mother's womb, His work of liberation was already complete.
(Master Jing Shan Gao's verse: "The honey on the blade's edge—do not lick it. The water from a poisoner's home—do not taste it. Neither licking nor tasting, committing no offense, you return home in fine robes, perfectly at ease." Master Tian Qi Rui said: "Those who can buy and sell yield to the true master. Those who can act and create stand alone as the supreme artisan. This humble monk has no such abilities—I merely enjoy the ordinary. Among sheep, I am a sheep. Among pigs, I am a pig. In the cattle pen, I am cattle. In the horse stall, I am a horse. Nothing is unclear. Why seek elsewhere beyond the gate? Now, do these words of mine align with the World-Honored One's intent? If you can understand this, when tea comes, open your mouth; when food arrives, raise your hand. Every move, every gesture—nothing is left unfinished.)
The Buddha's body fills the entire Dharma Realm, appearing before all living beings. Responding to conditions and reaching all who call, yet He remains forever seated on this Bodhi seat.
(Master Tian Qi Rui said: "Tell me, how far is the Buddha's body from the Dharma Realm? Is there a Dharma Realm apart from the Buddha's body? Or is the Dharma Realm itself the Buddha's body? Because people have long been confused by this duality, I deliberately raise it for you to examine, seeking the true understanding. Consider this: a single blade of grass embodies spring. Whether mountain or river, no grass is without spring. Is there a spring apart from the grass? Is there a grass apart from the spring? If you can understand it this way, the wind carries the sail—no need to row; the flute's sound summons the moon over the misty waters.)
Now I see clearly that all living beings possess the wisdom and virtuous marks of the Thus-Come One. But because of clinging thoughts and attachments, they fail to realize this.
