Master Yongjue's Praise
Disciple Zheng Xuan of the Zuofei Hermitage
This old master, the true heir of Shouchang, is as unpolished as a rough stone and as firm as stubborn iron. He greatly propagated the profound principle of the Middle Way, carrying forward the legacy of his predecessors. Following the distant path of the Tongxiao lineage, he returned directly to the original track. With a single whisk, he swept away the clouds of delusion that have obscured the world for centuries. With a seven-foot staff, he pointed out the bright moon over a thousand mountains. Chan, doctrine, and discipline were harmonized into one; Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism all returned to a single point of clarity. In five hundred years, there has been only this one person. Whether he is a sage or an ordinary being—do not speak carelessly.
