> The Diamond Sutra represents the highest teaching. Among the six hundred volumes of the Perfection of Wisdom scriptures, the Fifth Patriarch uniquely revered this sutra as the essential gateway to seeing one's true nature and attaining Buddhahood, urging both monks and laypeople to embrace and recite it. Since its translation by Dharma masters during the Qin and Wei dynasties, emperors, officials, scholars, and commoners alike have all practiced and chanted it. The miraculous responses and spiritual efficacy associated with holding this sutra have been clearly documented across generations. During the Tang dynasty, Minister Duan compiled records of extraordinary events; Emperor Taizong of Song included them in the \*Extensive Records of the Taiping Era\*; and in modern times, Tang Xuanzhi's \*Chariot of Guidance\*, Wang Zaisheng's \*Record of Wonders\*, and Mao Zongqi's \*Compilation of Retributions\*—all have tirelessly proclaimed the sacred teachings, guiding beings lost in confusion. By spreading the Dharma and continuing the lineage of wisdom, their contributions are truly eternal. The collection details karmic causation in vivid terms: fire can be reversed, water can be made to retreat, illness can be cured, calamities can be averted, one's lifespan can be extended, fame can be achieved, descendants can be secured, blessings can be gathered, shackles can release themselves, and blades can fall harmlessly. Above, it can liberate deceased ancestors; below, it can dissolve past grievances. Dark messengers and ghostly officials dare not approach, and the Lord of Mount Tai cannot record one's name. Heavenly beings prepare jeweled canopies and pagodas to shelter it, while King Yama provides golden couches and silver beds for its veneration. Further, it severs worldly toil and leads rebirth in the Pure Land. The underworld calls it the "Sutra of Prolonging Life" and the "Sutra of Merit." The profound esteem it receives from both the seen and unseen realms is thus evident. Even the merit of copying or reciting it is already inconceivably vast, so what of those who awaken the mind-ground and diligently uphold it? It is said that the Dharma-protecting deities guard the Dharma treasure itself, and thus they naturally protect those who propagate it and bear its message—this is beyond doubt. Just as I began gathering and arranging these records, I encountered like-minded virtuous friends who shared the aspiration for enlightenment and donated funds to support the publication. Combining ancient and modern accounts, consulting various reports, and expending considerable mental effort, I cannot claim this to be a definitive work, yet it surpasses previous editions in quality. Considering that most previous engravings have been in the Wu region, while other provinces rarely see such publications, this leaves a regrettable gap in the world. Even among those born in the majestic Buddha-lands, few have witnessed the flourishing circulation of the Dharma. I earnestly inform all virtuous friends and faithful readers: when you see this compilation, do not hesitate to widely reprint and distribute it, whether by retaining the original text or adapting it into new editions. For any further records of proof and efficacy you encounter, I especially hope you will compile them to encourage future generations to take refuge in the eternal. An ancient scholar once created a "broken-hive chart" to encourage people to recite the Buddha's name. Because others who chanted thus often attained rebirth in the Pure Land, he credited the chart-maker and himself for their rebirth. Furthermore, the "Good and Evil Scorebook" states: "Whoever teaches others the highest Dharma, enabling them to awaken through words, earns ten good deeds for teaching one person, one hundred for teaching ten, and one thousand for teaching great nobles, influential figures, or heroic leaders. Gathering, editing, printing, and distributing volumes to others earns ten thousand good deeds." This essential scripture of the Perfection of Wisdom, the supreme esoteric truth, can truly take wing and spread when one thus supports it, awakening oneself and others. Then the light of wisdom will never cease, and the perfect fruition of good deeds will be shared. The Eight Classes of Heavenly Dragons will together guard the precious scrolls, while in the burning house of the six sense realms, the flowers of the \*udumbara\* bowl will blossom everywhere. I have humbly written this brief introduction to encourage fellow practitioners. <note>Restoration</note>
