Sutra of the True Reality Embraced by All Buddhas
Translated by the Tripitaka Master Prajñā of Jibin Kingdom, by Imperial Command.
Chapter 1: Prologue
This is what I heard:
Thus have I heard: At one time, the Bhagavan Buddha had perfectly accomplished the wisdom of the Vajra-like Power practice and attained the most rare and supreme virtues. Having already received the crown from all Tathagatas, he surpassed the three realms. He had fully entered the Great Yoga of the All-Knowing Wisdom Illumination, free and unimpeded. He had realized the subtle wisdom seal of all Tathagatas, skillfully mastering all his tasks. He satisfied all kinds of wishes and desires of beings, granting them their deepest joys. The Great Compassionate Vairochana Tathagata, whose essence is eternal, has no beginning and no end. His body, speech, and mind are as solid as diamond, respected by all Buddhas of the ten directions, and revered and praised by all Bodhisattvas.
Then the Blessed One was dwelling atop the sublime peaks of Mount Sumeru, in the palace of the Thirty-Three Gods, within the magnificent and supreme jeweled pavilion of Mahamani—a site where the Buddhas of the three times have always expounded the Dharma. Its floor was soft, like cotton wool, made of pure white jade, with a lustrous hue akin to glistening snow. A wondrous pavilion adorned with seven precious materials—jade bells and jeweled chimes hung everywhere, swaying gently in the breeze and producing sublime sounds. Silken canopies, banners, garlands, necklaces of precious stones, and ornaments shaped like half-moons and full moons graced the space, shining with brilliance that illuminated the entire sky. Innumerable celestial beings praised it in unison.
Surrounding him were a great assembly of Mahasattva Bodhisattvas, accompanied by a retinue of sixteen kotis of nayutas of hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas. Their names were: Vajragarbha Bodhisattva, Vajradhanus Bodhisattva, Vajrasadhu Bodhisattva, Vajragarbha (the Bodhisattva of the Womb), Vajratejas Bodhisattva, Vajraketu Bodhisattva, Vajrahasa Bodhisattva, Vajralocana Bodhisattva, Vajradhara Bodhisattva, Vajracakra Bodhisattva, Vajrabhasa Bodhisattva, Vajrakarma Bodhisattva, Vajravirya Bodhisattva, Vajravegavinaya Bodhisattva, Vajramushti Bodhisattva. These sixteen Mahasattva Bodhisattvas each had a retinue of ten thousand kotis of nayutas of hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas as their followers.
Then there were also four Diamond Goddesses. Their names were Diamond Incense-Offering Goddess, Diamond Flower-Scattering Goddess, Diamond Lamp-Lighting Goddess, and Diamond Perfume-Anointing Goddess. Each of these Diamond Goddesses had one thousand Diamond Goddesses as their attendants.
Furthermore, the Lord of the Trayastrimsa Heaven, Shakra Devanam Indra, the Great King Lord Brahma, Maheshvara, and other great heavenly kings, along with countless heavenly beings of the Thirty-Three Heavens, and billions upon billions of celestial maidens—all offered pure devotion through diverse forms of song and dance.
Furthermore, there are countless transformation buddhas, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, appearing throughout Jambudvipa and filling the entire sky. Each of these buddhas manifests vast and countless buddha-realms. In each of those realms, countless ocean-like assemblies of bodhisattvas, sages, and holy beings surround the Buddha, as he expounds this great Dharma.
Then, Vairocana Tathagata, eternally abiding and unchanging throughout the entire realm of space, observed the great assembly like a majestic elephant king. He entered the rare and supreme Diamond Samadhi, which fills all of space and awakens the wisdom of intrinsic nature. After entering this samadhi, a blue light radiated from his chest, illuminating countless worlds in the eastern direction, as if they were made of deep lapis lazuli. From the pores of his entire body—from his face down to his toes—this blue light emanated. All these lights merged into one, penetrating everywhere without exception—from the deepest Avici Hell up to the highest Akaniṣṭha Heaven.
In those worlds, countless transformation Buddhas appeared. Each transformation Buddha revealed boundless, vast Buddha-fields. Within each of those Buddha-fields, countless enlightened beings from oceanic assemblies surrounded each Tathagata, as he expounded this great Dharma. In dark worlds and places without sunlight or moonlight, all beings—even those born blind—were bathed in this light. They saw all the transformation Buddhas of Vairocana, were forever freed from all suffering, and received boundless happiness.
