The Sutra on Monks Listening to Offerings was translated into Chinese by the Eastern Jin dynasty translator Dharmarakṣa, belonging to the early Buddhist scriptures. This sutra originates from the Madhyamāgama and records the Buddha's instructions to monks on receiving alms, clarifying that monks should accept offerings with a pure mind and diligently practice to repay the faith of devotees. The text emphasizes the interactive relationship between the monastic community's observance of precepts and practice and the lay devotees' accumulation of merit through giving, embodying the core spirit of mutual cultivation and benefiting both self and others in Buddhism. This sutra serves as an important text for studying the concepts of giving and monastic regulations in Chinese Buddhism, holding a foundational position within the Buddhist disciplinary and ethical system.

Bhikshu Ting Shi Sutra

Thus have I heard:

Once, the Buddha was staying in the Jeta Grove, in the garden of Anathapindika, near the city of Shravasti.

At that time, a certain monk came to the assembly hall and said to the other monks, "Venerable friends, I am currently unable to practice the teachings. I am deeply overcome by drowsiness, find no joy in the path of practice, and am filled with doubt about the teachings."

In the assembly, a monk stood up and said to the Buddha, "There is a monk named Tingshi who came to the lecture hall and told the other monks, 'I can't keep up with the teachings anymore. I'm falling into drowsiness, I've lost my joy in the spiritual path, and I have doubts about all the doctrines.'"
