The "Illustrated Record of the Jetavana Monastery in Śrāvastī, Central India," compiled by the Tang Dynasty Vinaya master Daoxuan, is a vital document of Buddhist monastic literature. Focusing on the Jetavana Grove Monastery—a central site of the Buddha's teaching—the work details its architectural layout, hall structures, and religious significance, blending Indian and Chinese Buddhist spatial concepts. Through textual research and inspired narrative, Daoxuan reconstructed an idealized model of a Buddhist monastery. This work profoundly influenced the construction of Han Buddhist monasteries, religious rituals, and the sanctification of sacred space during the Tang Dynasty and beyond, standing as an essential classic for the study of Chinese Buddhist architectural history and religious thought.
