Record of the Translation of the Sutra of the Questions of the Holy and Virtuous Heavenly Prince Susthitamati
The Dharma endures through the True and Semblance Ages, relying solely on the sages. In this declining era, who but the wise can uphold it? The Tripitaka Master Vimoksaprajñarṣi, born of the Kṣatriya royal lineage of Udyāna, trod the path of compassion from youth and followed the trail of mercy as he grew. He guided the confused multitude, admonishing evil and leading to goodness, ever acting as the uninvited friend to all beings, holding this lamp of Dharma to illuminate their darkness.
In the capital of Ye of the Wei dynasty, blessings were gathered to support this work. In the second year of the Xinghe era, under the celestial sign of Shishen, empowered by the Buddha’s Dharma, this sutra emerged, titled *The Questions of the Good-Stable-Mind Heavenly Son*. The work began on the first day of the intercalary month of Jianwu, the cyclical day Dingchou; the task was undertaken on Wuyin and completed on Yisi.
Assisting in the translation were the disciples Gautama Ruci and the monk-translator Tanlin. May those virtuous ones who preserve the Way and revere the Dharma accept this true record, that it may be clearly known without confusion.
