The *Outline of the Heart Sutra* by the Ming Dynasty thinker Li Zhi is a concise interpretation of the Buddhist classic, the *Heart Sutra*. Written during the late Ming period, a time marked by the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, Li Zhi expounds on the wisdom of emptiness from the perspective of the School of Mind, emphasizing the state of practice where "the mind is free from hindrances." The work focuses on elucidating core teachings such as "the five aggregates are empty" and "form and emptiness are not two," while critiquing formalized religious rituals. Though not a traditional commentary, this outline reflects the unique understanding of prajñā wisdom within late Ming lay Buddhism. It holds significant influence in the history of Buddhist thought and Chinese philosophy, serving as a key text for studying Li Zhi's ideas and the integration of Buddhism in the Ming Dynasty.
