咄這村僧。百拙千醜。用處顢頇。舉止磔斗。秉惡毒鉗鎚。碎情塵窠臼。佛祖飲氣吞聲。魔外望風拱手。有時漢語胡言。總當談玄說玅。有時把拍板門槌。唱雲門曲。合胡笳調。有時指圓覺場作牛攔。有時喚普光殿為馬廐。如斯孟浪為人。鈍置月林之後。

> This clumsy village monk, a hundred flaws and a thousand uglinesses. In action he is muddled; in manner he stumbles like a fighting cock. He wields vicious tongs and hammers, crushing the nests of emotional dust. Buddhas and patriarchs swallow their breath and silence their voices; Demons and outsiders, hearing his wind, clasp their hands in deference. Sometimes he speaks in Han or barbarian tongues, always spinning tales of mystery and wonder. Sometimes he takes up a clapper or a door mallet, singing the tune of Cloud Gate, blending with the reed-pipe airs. Sometimes he points to the site of Perfect Enlightenment and calls it a cattle pen; Sometimes he names the Hall of Universal Radiance a horse stable. Such reckless ways with others— He leaves the legacy of Moon Grove dull and slow, lagging behind.
